Spaniel is a larger breed of small dogs. Spaniel is a type of gun dog with long coat and drop ears and is useful in birds hunting. Spaniels are peculiar in marking bird fall and retrieving it with soft mouth. Besides assisting in bird hunting, Spaniels are equally skillful in hunting rabbits and waterfowl.

Spaniels are proficient in hunting in open grounds, woodlands, farmlands, and marshy lands. Types of Spaniels: American water Spaniel, Irish Water Spaniel, American Cocker Spaniel, English Cocker Spaniel, Field Spaniel, French Spaniel, German Spaniel, Russian Spaniel and many more. English Water Spaniel and Tweed Water Spaniel breeds are believed to be extinct. Distinct characteristics of Spaniels: long and full ears, overflowing hair, and broad muzzle.

Color of Spaniels: white, red and white, black and white and sometimes deep brown with tan spots near eyes. Qualities of Spaniels: intelligent, affectionate, brave, obedient, and highly demanded as companion.
