Samoyed is the name that is derived from Samoyedic community of Siberia. Samoyed dogs have originated from Western Siberia and Northern Russia. Samoyed dogs were used by Siberian nomads in herding reindeers. Samoyed dogs were also used for pulling sled. Thick wooly coat of Samoyed dogs is can withstand extreme cold temperatures.
Nomads used to keep them warm and take protection from cold by sleeping over Samoyed dogs. Sam, Sammy and Smiley are the nick names for Samoyed dogs. Features of Samoyed dogs: Eyes are black or brown; Ears are triangular, erect and thick with cover of fur; Coat is dense, furry and double coat.
Qualities and temperament of Samoyed dogs: very friendly, playful, peaceful, easy going, sociable, loving, stubborn and difficult to train. Weight of Samoyed dogs is around 22 to 30 pounds. Samoyed dogs live an average 15 years life. Samoyed make good family company companion however they are not preferred as guard dogs.
