Retriever dogs are from gundog breed. Retriever dogs are basically bred for retrieving the birds or other prey of a hunter with a soft mouth so that no damage is caused to the birds or prey. Retriever dogs are specifically trained to catch the prey of hunters with soft mouth without biting the birds.

Training for soft mouth is possible only due to the willingness of Retriever dogs to obey and please the masters. To train retriever dogs properly in order to make them gun dogs, special skills must be developed into them. Retriever dog is a large breed with various other varieties.

Few names of other varieties of Retriever dogs: American water Spaniel, Barbet, Labrador retriever, golden retriever, curly coated and flat coated retriever, German water spaniel, Irish water spaniel, Poodle, Portuguese water dog, and Nova Scotia duck tolling retriever. Retriever dogs are mainly used as assistance dogs.
