More common name for Mastiff dogs is English Mastiff. It is one of the largest breed of dogs that comes from general breed Mastiff or Molosser types of dogs. Mastiff is even larger than Irish wolfhound in weight but not in height. Old English Mastiff is the alternate name and its country of origin is England.

Features of Mastiff dogs: Very strong, massive, powerful and muscular build; head is heavy and square with short muzzle and broad skull; eyes are small, dark and hazel and with black mask around eyes; ears are small and dark colored; coat is short and comes silver, apricot, golden fawn and light fawn color. Qualities and temperament of Mastiff dogs: courageous, dignified, confident, fierce, intelligent, loyal, obedient, alert, athletic, protective.

Weight of Mastiff dogs varies from 100 to 200 pounds and height is 30 inches minimum. Life span is between 10 to 12 years. Due to their protective and courageous instinct and abilities, Mastiff dogs are very popular as guard dogs.
