Pekingese or Pekinese dogs is a toy breed of dog originated in China. Pekingese are also referred to as Lion dogs due to resemblance with Chinese Lions. Chinese people love this dog very much and it can be seen from various pieces of Chinese artwork depicting Pekingese dogs. Though the breed is believed to be over 200 years old but has hardly undergone any changes. Features of Pekingese dogs: head is broad; eyes are sparkling, large and dark; ears long and drooping and feathered; flat and dark face with wrinkled muzzles; thick and short neck; coat is straight and flowing, long and feathered; coat comes in many color but golden and red color is common. Qualities and temperament of Pekingese dogs: brave and courageous little dogs, athletic, independent, affectionate, sensitive, obstinate, stubborn, and loyal. Weight of Pekingese dogs is about 8 to 10 pounds and height is about 6 to 9 inches. Average life span is around 10 to 15 years. Pointer dogs become good watch dogs.
